Magnetic anomaly data of the Former Soviet Union CD-ROM

In 1974, the Ministry of Geology of the U.S.S.R. published a mosaic series of 18 sheets at 1:2.5 million scale showing the residual magnetic intensity over the land mass of the Former U.S.S.R. (FSU). These sheets were digitized in 1982 by the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO), Stennis Space Center Mississippi in order to produce four (4) regional one-arc-minute grids of magnetic anomaly values covering the entire FSU. The digital data were provided to the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) for archival and public dissemination. The data set contains a wealth of information useful to Earth scientists studying global tectonic processes and the deep crustal composition of major continental cratons.

This CD contains the digital magnetic anomaly data for the FSU along with revised versions of the data. The digital data were contributed by the US Naval Oceanographic Office at Stennis Space Center, Mississippi; Conoco, Inc., Ponca City, Oklahoma and the National Geophysical Data Center, Boulder, Colorado. When it exists, information is provided for each data set about the contributor, the quality of the data, problems that may be encountered in using these data in some applications, and other additional information.
